The PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a handheld game console developed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Development of the handheld was announced during E3 2003, and it was unveiled on May 11, 2004, at a Sony press conference before E3 2004. The system was released in Japan on December 12, 2004, in North America on March 24, 2005, and in the PAL region on September 1, 2005. It primarily competed with the Nintendo DS, as part of the seventh generation of video games consoles.

Game Storage & Preservation

SDXC cards can be used on CFW (tested 2x 64 GB on 6.61 Infinity Pro), but SDHC must be used on non-custom firmware.

Recommended Plugins

Catagory Lite 1.6

Installation

  1. Download Catagory Lite 1.6 and extract the zip file.
  2. Connect PSP to PC via USB and select USB Mode (if it didn't automatically activate).
  3. Copy categorylite folder to SEPLUGINS folder on PSP.
  4. If this is the first plugin installed:
    1. Copy vsh.txt to SEPLUGINS folder on PSP
    2. Otherwise, append ms0:/seplugins/categorylite/category_lite.prx 1 to vsh.txt within the SEPLUGINS folder on PSP.
  5. Create folders named CAT_CategoryName (replacing CategoryName with desired categories) within the ISO folder and place ISO files within these CAT_ folders.
  6. Create folders named CAT_CategoryName (replacing CategoryName with desired categories) within the PSP/GAME folder and place folders containing EBOOT.PBP (and associated files) within these CAT_ folders.
  7. Disconnect from PC (soft eject on PC then press Circle to exit USB Mode).
  8. Press SELECT and enter RECOVERY MENU, then Plugins and ensure category_lite.prx is enabled.
  9. Press Circle to exit Plugins and select Reset device.
  10. Within System Settings there should be new settings. Set Category mode to Multi MS, Category prefix to Use CAT prefix and Show uncategorized to No.
  11. Done. Your apps and games should now be within category folders.

PRXShot v0.1.2

The PSP doesn't come with a native method of capturing screenshots. This plugin enables the use of the Note button on the PSP to capture screenshots. All screen captures of the PSP on this wiki page were captured using this plugin.

Installation

  1. Download PRXShot v0.1.2 and extract the zip file.
  2. Connect PSP to PC via USB and select USB Mode (if didn't automatically activate).
  3. Copy prxshot folder to SEPLUGINS folder on PSP.
  4. If this is the first plugin installed:
    1. Copy game.txt and vsh.txt to SEPLUGINS folder on PSP
    2. Otherwise, append ms0:/seplugins/prxshot/prxshot++.prx 1 to game.txt and vsh.txt within the SEPLUGINS folder on PSP.
  5. Disconnect from PC (soft eject on PC then press Circle to exit USB Mode).
  6. Press SELECT and enter RECOVERY MENU, then Plugins and ensure prxshot++.prx is enabled (both GAME and VSH).
  7. Press Circle to exit Plugins and select Reset device.
  8. Done. You can now press the Note button (left of SELECT) to capture screenshot. You can view these in the Photo folder or when connect via USB they are located PSP/SCREENSHOT/GameName (eg XMB).
