Burned Discs
Dreamcast consoles manufactured before October 2000 can natively read games burned to CD-R, while later models include changes to the disc drive firmware that prevent this.
To check compatibility, look on the bottom of the Dreamcast for a number inside a circle near the "PAL" or "NTSC" label.
- If the number is 0 or 1, the console can play burned games without modification.
- If the number is 2 or higher, the console cannot natively boot burned discs due to the removal of support for the Mil-CD format, which earlier models used for booting unofficial software.
